: Third report of the project, "Nutritional, Biochemical and
Medicinal properties of Chichorium intybus (Kasini
keerai)"
We are happy to send you the third report of the project "The
Nutritional, Biochemical and Medicinal properties of Chicorium intybus"
Diabetics, 30 in number participated in the study. Supplementation
of the fresh leaves was carried out for a period of 6 months. The
powder and tablets were given for 9 months. Participants who volunteered
to consume the cooked leaves found it difficult to continue beyond
6 months. In all the three groups, Kasini Powder and Capsule is
found to be hypoglycemic and hypolipidemic.
Kasini Powder and Capsule was analysed for its antimutagenicity
and is found to have antimutagenic, anticarcinogenic and antigenotoxic
effect.
The extraction and identification of the active principle in Kasini
Powder and Capsule consumes large volume of solvents and the process
is time consuming.
We have sent a copy of this report to the Director, National Institute
of Nutrition, for their views and comments. |
