KASINI PLUS FOR DIABETES

Kasini Plus, a coded herbal preparation has various medicinal effects, and medicinal values, including anti infalmmatory, antidiabetic, antihypertensive and antilipidemic effects.

A project was undertaken by Department of Bio-Chemistry, Avinashilingam University, Coimbatore, to analyze the nutritional and bio-chemical constituents of the Kasini Plus and correlate their levels with medicinal properties.

Analysis of Kasini Plus showed that it contains phytochemicals like carbohydrates, protein, polyphenols, tannins, flavonoids, alkaloids and saponins., It is also a rich source of minerals and antioxidants, catalase, peroxidase, and SOD ascorbic acid, tocopherol, 22-carotene, riboflavin, polyphenols, flavonoids and tannins.

Kasini Plus has reasonably good amounts of minerals such as calcium, phosphorous, and iron.

Inhibition of in vitro lipid peroxidation by the extracts of Kasini Plus showed that it effectively neutralizes the free radicals and thus prevents lipid peroxidation.

Kasini Plus did not induce and mutation in the strains TA98, TA102. It is anti mutagenic and anti carcinogenic. Kasini Plus has brought down the elevated blood glucose and lipid levels in the alloxan induced diabetic rats. This suggested that it is hypoglycemic and hypolipidemic. The antioxidant levels in the rats also proved that it has protection against free radical damage. It is also non toxic. Thus this investigation very well establishes the antidiabetic effect of Kasini Plus and also its potency in preventing the complications of the diabetes mellitus.
