                                                                             DIABETICS CAN LEAD
                                                                      A NORMAL AND HAPPY LIFE

Unani medicine lays great stress on treating diabetes and certain ailments by administration of specific diets or by regulating the quality and quantity of food. Many books are available on this subject in Unani system of medicine.
Diabetes can be well managed and controlled by proper diet, medicine, walking and simple exercises. Diabetic patient should feel that he is normal in ail aspects of his daily life. He should not feel that he has to sacrifice the best part of his life by avoiding his favourite dishes and his routine work. A diabetic patient can definitely lead a normal happy life if he takes a little care regarding his activities, medicine and food prescribed in unani literature. They should follow a regular diet schedule.
The Unani Medical literature has a vast chapter on dietotherapy which explains what type of food a patient should take and what should be avoided to control and cure disease.
It is the habit of many to have a three meals a day breakfast, lunch and supper. A diabetic requires six time schedules. The long interval between the meals makes hin feel famished and consequently weak and tried, for the food consumed by the diabetic is quickly digested. So in between of main meals the diabetics should eat and drink at regular intervals. At 6 a.m. he begin the day with kasini tea without sugar. He many eat snacks with tea or soup preferably at 11a.m. 5 p.m., and 10 p.m.
We tend to eat each time to our stomach fill. A diabetics should avoid over eating. Over eating makes the system to slow down it, activities. Excess of glucose gets into the blood stream due to the absence of insulin - secretion of insulin by the pancreas helps in the proper absorption and distribution of statch. In the absence of insulin the glucose gets directly into the blood stream and makes the blood to flow in a sluggish manner
The food that we eat contains glucose in some form or other. No food is completely devoid of sugar. Hence consuming small quantities at small intervals will go long way to reduce the sugar level in our blood.
