Kasini Dr.Akbar kausar
This is the true story of a dynamic and humble, Nutrition Home
scientist, Great educationist, Scholar, Social Activist, Administrator,
Versatile Achiever Dr. Rajammal P.Devadas the late Chancellor
of Avinashilingam Deemed University, born on 07-O4-1919 heft us
on 17-03-2002 at the age of eighty three. This date is now observed
as "World Health Day" all over the world from 1948.
During her sojourn in this world, her achievements are countless.
The world, the Indian Nation, the state of Tamil Nadu and the
town she lived in Coimbatore and Chengam, were better places because
of her endless work and countless sacrifices. She got many awards
from distinguished dignitaries, from Indian Presidents, Prime
Ministers, governors and Chief Ministers, yet she remained most
humble and simple.
Rajammal is a visionary. Her vision was focussed on health.
Dr. Rajammal began her research in the early sixties on Ready
To Consume (RTC) foods. She succeeded in developing indigenous
ingredients from jowar/maize/ragi and bengal gram/green gram mixes
along with roasted groundnuts and jaggery to supplement an RTC
of 300 calories and 10 gms of protein per child per day to fill
a calorie gap with a single 80-gm serving at a cost of 10 paise.
The idea and practice
spread to several hundred pre-schools in the State. As a result
the height and weight of infants and children has improved.
Under Mr. Devadas's
guidance, the community nutrition training camps were set up in
Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Kerala, Karnataka, and Pondicherry,Malaysia
and Cambodia
Her training stretched
to World Bank-assisted Tamil Nadu Integrated Nutrition Programme
to reduce infant mortality rate (IMR) and malnutrition in "less
than six-year-old" children.
The poor Nutrition
diet causes lot of diseases to the child and mother. So, she decided
to dedicated her whole life in finding a low cost, good nutrition
diet suitable to our country and the world in general.
Since her childhood,
she engaged in the research of Nutrition and diet. She is the
Architect of "The Chief Ministers" Nutritions Noon Meal
programme (CM NNMP) of T.N. and other states of India.
During the early past
of 198O Dr. M.G. Ramachandran, the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu
wanted to give one time free Nutritions Noon Meal to all the children
from 2+ to 14+ at noon between 12.3O p.m and 1 p.m on all days
in the year, regardless of holidays. She worked as the member
of the high level committee to advise the Government as the "Nutrition
expert". She worked out simple, Nutritious low menus and
reciepes to be prepared with variety for a week which could be
repeated. The cost had to be within a rupee per child per day
inclusive of all overheads. This was a tremendous challenge. She
met it fully and prepared a manual for the guidance of all concerned
and undertook the massive training of the workers appointed for
the purpose. Dr. M.G.R had wanted this to be an employment programme
for women in the local areas. The primary schools and child care
centres were to be the venues. But they were not adequate to meet
the needs of over 8 million children. Therefore Nutritious Meal
Centres were built with great speed - 36000 of them to serve not
only meals but also impart pre - school education. People doubted
the wisdom in this huge undertaking. Even eminent nutritionists
questioned the modalities. But having been an integral part of
the entire exercise from the beginning and as a member of the
State Planning Commission. She assured them stating, "There
are three essentials needed for the success of any statewide programme
(1) political will (2) The administrative support and (3) Expert
advise. Here is a programme which has all these three ingredients
in abundance. It is bound to succeed." It has succeeded beyond
every one’s expectations.
She has published more
than 530 research papers, 350 popular articles and 57 boooks in
English and Tamil. Her last research work was on Dr. Akbar Kausar's
three herbal preparations.
(1) Kasini - Herbal powder and capsule for diabetes and cholestrol.
(2) Kasini - Ashshifa -1000 a coded herbal compound for liver
problem.
(3) Kasini Plus, a coded classical herbal compound for diabetes.
This mega project was
taken up as a challenge with a huge investment of money and man
power at the Avinashilingam University campus, funded by Al-Kausar
Herbal Hospitals (Pvt.Ltd.), Vaniyambadi.

tablets were given for 9 months to the participants. Those who
consumed Kasini is found to be hypoglycemic hypolipidemic. It
was analysed for it's antimutagenicity and its found to have antimutagenic,
anticarcinogenic and antigenotoxic effect.
The report says as
